State of Oregon requires paid tax
preparers to be a CPA, Attorney, LTP or LTC to prepare tax returns
in the state of Oregon. IRS is in the process of implementing a nationwide standard and registration
of all tax preparers (with a few exceptions) unless already an EA, CPA or Attorney.
LTP: Licensed Tax Preparer is issued by
the Oregon Board of Tax Practitioners.
This requires successfully completing the 80 hour tax course
and passing a in-depth test on personal taxes & ethics.
In future years maintain minimum of 30 hours of continuing education each year
LTC: Licensed Tax Consultant is issued
by the Oregon Board of Tax Practitioners.
This requires having worked as a licensed tax preparer not less than 1100 hours,
passing a in-depth examination and to maintain minimum of 30 hours of continuing education each year
EA: Enrolled Agent is a certificate of
enrollment to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.
This requires passing a in-depth 3-part examination
and to a maintain minimum of 24 hours of continuing education each year.
CPA: is licensed & regulated by
each state's Board of Accountancy.
CPA license covers a wide variety of work from specializing in accounting to specializing in
taxation. We are not a CPA firm.
